Tying and Fishing Flies for Trout Lakes
Saturday, March 27, 1 Pm to 4:30 PM
Although we have our cherished Yakima River, Washington state has far more trout lakes than trout rivers - and many of our lakes are world-class. In these lakes, we have wonderful hatches of damselflies and mayflies and lakes heavy with scuds and dragonfly nymphs.
Join renown fly tyer and author Skip Morris at the Yakima River Fly Shop in Cle Elum for a three and a half hour workshop on Tying and Fishing Flies for Trout Lakes. Skip Morris has authored books such as TROUT FLIES FOR RIVERS, FLY TYING MADE CLEAR AND SIMPLE II, and co-authored MORRIS & CHAN ON FLY FISHING TROUT LAKES among other titles, 12 books in all.
Skip will teach you how to tie deadly, proven flies for our lakes and explain how to fish each fly.
The context of the workshop is informational and hands on. For each lake insect, we'll watch slides showing the insect, the water it lives in and hatches from (if it hatches), a fly or two for its imitation, and how and when to fish that fly. Then the lights go up and Skip moves to the vise to tie the fly (or flies), pass a sample around and answer a few questions. Then it's back to the slides, and so on. You'll leave with a handout that contains the fly patterns and a color photo of each, knowledge of how and when to fish them, and a fly tied by Skip.
The cost is $35 with preregistration and $45 at the door. We have a limited amount of space for this informative workshop. Please contact the fly shop to reserve your space.
